Choosing a port

Most Kei car shipping companies will have a few select ports they ship to. Each port has different rules and requirements.

Generally, pick the closest port to your final destination.

Port requirements

Freetime

Freetime is much time given after notification of pickup. If the car stays at the port longer than the allotted free time, you will be charged demurrage and detention fees

Typically, it takes 2 business days after the drop-off date before the Kei car is ready for pickup. Call the port beforehand to ensure that the vehicle is ready for pickup.

TWIC

Ports may require a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) or an escort.

Escort services are provided at the port location, so there isn't a requirement to schedule an escort beforehand. Escorts can cost around $100 dollars.

Delivery order

All ports will require a delivery order. You can request one from the shipping company or your customs broker before going to the port.
