Legality

Idaho does not ban Kei vans, but also does not state that they are legal. The state has no special prohibition or unique restriction against these Japanese mini-vehicles. Idaho treats them like any other imported vehicle as long as they meet standard requirements.

Title and registration

When you go to the Idaho DMV to register a Kei vehicle, you’ll need to provide all the typical documentation for a grey-market import. Idaho’s regulations outline the paperwork required, which includes:

  • CBP Form 7501 (Entry Summary)
  • CBP Form 3461 (Entry/immediate delivery)
  • Customs Bond Arrival Notice
  • Original Invoice or Bill of Sale
  • Export certificate(English and Japanese)
    • English translation of the back of the export certificate
  • DOT HS-7 declaration
  • EPA Form 3520-1
  • Idaho Inspection
    • Contact your local county office to inquire about how to get a VIN inspection. Sometimes its by appointment or someone at the DMV can get inspected
  • Indemnification Statement
